Signs you need sewer line repair

More than one fixture backing up at once, which points at the main rather than a branch

What the job actually involves

So you know what you are paying for, and what questions are worth asking any plumber who quotes it.

Camera the line first

A camera inspection shows whether the problem is a blockage, root intrusion, a separated joint, a belly holding water, or a collapse. These have very different repairs, and guessing between them is how the wrong work gets done.

Locate the fault from the surface

Once the camera reaches the fault, its position and depth are marked from above ground. That is what keeps excavation to the section that has actually failed.

Repair, then verify

Root intrusion at a joint, a crushed section, and a line with a belly each get a different fix. The line is run and re-inspected afterwards to confirm it drains as it should.

Diagnosing and repairing the line everything else drains into.

How do I know the problem is the main sewer line and not one drain?

One slow fixture is usually local to that fixture. Several backing up at once, gurgling from a toilet when the washing machine or tub drains, or sewage appearing at the lowest drain in the house all point at the main line instead.

Why camera the line before digging?

Because a blockage, root intrusion at a joint, a separated joint, a belly holding water, and a collapsed section all produce similar symptoms and need completely different repairs. Our team uses the latest tools and methods to diagnose, address, and restore the functioning of your sewer lines. Camera work also locates the fault from the surface, which is what keeps excavation to the section that has failed.

The drain clears when it is cabled but blocks again. Why?

Cabling clears the obstruction without changing what caused it. If roots have entered at a joint, or a section has sagged into a belly that holds water and solids, the line will block again on the same schedule until the fault itself is repaired.

Can a sewer line be repaired without digging up the yard?

It depends on what the camera finds and where the fault sits. Where the line runs beneath a slab, tunneling from outside the foundation can reach it without cutting through finished floors. The locate work comes first, because it decides which options are available.
