Signs you need sewer line repair
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting looked at before it becomes a bigger job.
More than one fixture backing up at once, which points at the main rather than a branch
Gurgling from a toilet when the washing machine or tub drains
Sewage smell indoors, or outside over the line run
A patch of lawn that is greener, softer, or wetter than the rest of the yard
Drains that clear when they are cabled and then block again within weeks
A slab or driveway section that has started to settle above the line
What the job actually involves
So you know what you are paying for, and what questions are worth asking any plumber who quotes it.
Camera the line first
A camera inspection shows whether the problem is a blockage, root intrusion, a separated joint, a belly holding water, or a collapse. These have very different repairs, and guessing between them is how the wrong work gets done.
Locate the fault from the surface
Once the camera reaches the fault, its position and depth are marked from above ground. That is what keeps excavation to the section that has actually failed.
Repair, then verify
Root intrusion at a joint, a crushed section, and a line with a belly each get a different fix. The line is run and re-inspected afterwards to confirm it drains as it should.
