Find out what actually failed

Fixtures share supply lines, shutoffs, and drains, so the fixture that shows the symptom is not always the part that failed. The repair starts by isolating which component is at fault instead of replacing the visible one and hoping.

Repair or replace, whichever is right

A cartridge, a wax ring, or a supply line is a repair. A fixture that has been rebuilt repeatedly, or one whose parts are no longer made, is usually cheaper to replace than to keep patching.

Test it under real conditions

A joint that holds at rest can still weep under pressure or under thermal movement. Work is checked hot and cold, and at full flow, before the job is called finished.

Is it worth repairing a fixture or should I replace it?

A cartridge, a wax ring, or a supply line is a straightforward repair. A fixture that has been rebuilt more than once, or one whose replacement parts are no longer made, usually costs less to replace than to keep patching. We will tell you which situation you are in before any work starts.

Why is my toilet running between flushes?

Most often a flapper that no longer seals, a fill valve that does not shut off, or a float set too high. It is a small repair, but a running toilet can waste a large volume of water continuously, so it shows up on the bill before it shows up anywhere else.

My water pressure dropped at one faucet only. Why?

Pressure lost at a single fixture usually means a blocked aerator, a failing cartridge, or a partly closed angle stop, all local to that fixture. Pressure lost across the whole house points at the supply system instead, which is a different problem and worth investigating properly. See our whole house repipe page.
